In 1870 Jesuit Fathers cameto Asansol to start Educational Institutions to educate the people of Asansolworking in collieries, factories and Railways. Their sole aim was to uplift thepeople through Education especially through the English Higher Education.This English Higher Education would make the people to think and act inresponsible freedom. This aim was expressed by our own great son of the soiland greatest poet of our Nation Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore, who himself was astudent of Jesuit Fathers in Kolkata:
“Into that Heavenof Freedom, my Father,
Let my CountryAwake.”
Asansol which was small village grew into a major railwaycolony.
As the railway net-work grew, the demand for English HigherEducation increased.
