St. Xavier's College, Asansol is a minority Institution owned and managed by the Catholic Diocese of Asansol, with the registration of St. Xavier's College Education Trust, Asansol. The College is a Self-Financed and recognized by the Government of West Bengal and affiliated to Kazi Nazrul University of Asansol.

In, 1870 Jesuit Fathers came to Asansol to start Educational Institutions to educate the people of Asansol working in Collieries, factories and Railways. Their sole aim was to uplift the people through Education especially through the English Higher Education. This English Higher Education would make the people to think and act in responsible freedom. This aim was expressed by our own great son of the soil and greatest poet of our Nation Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore,who himself was a student of Jesuit Fathers in Kolkata.

Mission: To provide general quality and value based education to all with specific focus on the marginalised so as to illuminate the minds, heart and the intellect of every person, leading to holistic formation and the societal transformation.

Our College aims at the integral, personal formation of youth. To accomplish this, special efforts are made:

• To encourage them continously to strive after excellence in every field;
• To value and judiciously use their freedom;
• To be clear and firm on principles and courageous in action.
• To be selfless in the service of their fellowmen,, and

Our college thus aims at making its own contribution towards a transformation of the present day social condition so that principles of social justice, equality of opportunity, genuine freedom, and respect for religious and moral values, as enshrined in the Constitution of India, may prevail, and the possibility of living a holistic human existence may be available to all.
